Have you ever wondered how sound travels inside the ear and up to the brain?  Watch this quick video courtesy of the National Institutes of Health to learn more about the human hearing mechanism.  Remember to unmute your speaker when the video begins playing.

Journey of Sound to the Brain

An audiological assessment involves a series of tests to evaluate our amazing hearing mechanism.  Each test assesses a different part of the auditory pathway.  Audiological test results will provide information on the type and degree of hearing loss if any, speech understanding, ear drum movement, and reflex testing of the middle ear muscle.  Additional  testing will look at outer hair cell function.  These tests can be performed collectively in approximately 30 minutes and are completely painless.

So what happens when the test results indicate a hearing loss?
